2024 Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO Plans

Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) offers Medicare Advantage Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans in California. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find an Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO plan in your area.

Learn more about Medicare Advantage HMO plans, such as the potential benefits a plan may offer and how to find out if your doctor is part of the plan network.

How do Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO plans work?

Anthem MediBlue HMO plans allow you to select a primary care doctor who coordinates your health care within the Anthem network of participating providers and specialists whenever you need specialized care.

A Medicare Advantage HMO plan generally does not offer any coverage for care obtained outside of the network unless for emergency medical care.

What do Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO plans cover?

All Medicare Advantage plans are required by law to cover all of the same benefits found in Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B).

Medicare Part A provides coverage for hospice care, some home health care and inpatient care at hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other inpatient facilities. Medicare Part B covers most outpatient care at doctor’s offices, rehab centers and more. Part B also covers many preventive care services and durable medical equipment (DME).

Some Anthem Medicare Advantage plans may also offer coverage for some things not found in Original Medicare. Some of these benefits may include coverage for things like:

  • Routine dental, hearing and vision care
  • Prescription drugs
  • Transportation to up to 30 health appointments each year
  • A fitness tracking device and access to online brain exercises to help with your memory and attention
  • A personal home health aide who can help you with daily needs around your house
  • Free home delivery of healthy meals

Depending on the California county you live in, you may have access to one or more of the following types of Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO plans:

  • Anthem MediBlue Value Plus (HMO)
  • Anthem MediBlue StartSmart Plus (HMO)
  • Anthem MediBlue Select (HMO)
  • Anthem MediBlue Plus (HMO)
  • Anthem MediBlue Coordination Plus (HMO)
  • Anthem MediBlue Connect Plus (HMO)
  • Anthem MediBlue Extra (HMO)

What are the advantages of an Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO plan?

HMO Medicare Advantage plans typically offer lower monthly premiums than some other types of Medicare advantage plans.

Some beneficiaries may find that they value the team-approach to care that an HMO plan offers by coordinating care within a network of healthcare professionals. Some Anthem Medicare Advantage plan beneficiaries may also enjoy the familiarity of a primary care doctor.
