2024 Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans Offer Expanded List of Benefits

Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) Medicare Advantage plans provide the same benefits you can get from Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B). Many Anthem Medicare Advantage plans may also offer benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, such as dental, vision, hearing and prescription drug coverage.

Depending on where you live in California, you may be able to find Anthem Medicare Advantage plans available in your area that offer an expanded list of benefits designed to help you improve your health and well-being.

What benefits can some Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans cover?

Many Anthem Medicare Advantage plans may offer dental, vision, hearing and prescription drug coverage.

  • Dental coverage can typically include routine dental care such as exams, teeth cleanings and X-rays, along with more advanced treatment such as fillings, bridges and dentures. 
  • Vision benefits can include routine eye exams, glasses frames, prescription lenses and contacts.
  • Hearing coverage can often include an allowance for the cost of hearing aids and hearing aid fittings.
  • The prescription drug coverage found in an Anthem Medicare Advantage plan will come with a formulary, or a list of drugs covered by the plan, and include access to a network of thousands of pharmacies across the country.

Some Anthem Medicare Advantage plans may also offer supplemental benefits that can vary from one plan to the next. Some of these supplemental benefits may include:

  • SilverSneakers® membership
    SilverSneakers is a fitness program designed specifically for seniors offered at thousands of gyms and community centers around the country.
  • Transportation
    Non-emergency medical transportation to doctor’s appointments, pharmacies and other health-care services may be covered by way of public transportation or ride-sharing services.
  • Nutritional support
    Qualified plan members may receive 2 home-delivered meals per day for up to 90 days, along with periodic appointments with a registered dietician.
  • Meal delivery
    Some Anthem Medicare Advantage plan members who are released from the hospital may receive up to 7 days of home-delivered meals to aid in the transition.
  • Over-the-counter health products
    Discounts or allowances may be available for over-the-counter health products purchased from pharmacies, such as cold medicines, allergy medication and more. 
  • In-home care
    Beneficiaries released from a hospital or nursing facility may be able to receive in-home assistance to help with activities of daily living.  
  • Telehealth
    LiveHealth Online is a telehealth service where Anthem Medicare Advantage plan members can visit with a doctor virtually, using a smartphone or computer 24/7.
  • Personal emergency response system
    Anthem Medicare Advantage plan benefits may include a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) used to monitor your health and signal for emergency help when needed.
  • Respite care
    Respite care benefits can include up to 80 hours per year of respite care for members with a chronic disease who have an unpaid caregiver. 
  • Adult day care
    Anthem Medicare Advantage plan members who require assistance or supervision may be able to receive coverage of a weekly visit to an adult day care center. 
  • Acupuncture and pain management
    Acupuncture coverage can include up to 24 visits per year or acupuncture, pressure treatment, chiropractic services or therapeutic massage.
  • Pest control
    The presence of pests in a home can irritate certain chronic conditions, and this benefit can include regular treatments to regulate or terminate household pests that may pose a health risk to plan members who live with chronic conditions.

Please note that all of the above benefits may not be available with every Anthem Medicare Advantage plan. Some of the benefits listed may require a referral or precertification, and you are typically required to use network providers.
